The Fuchsia Hōō Ascension — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Lumbar Pillow, Phoenix in Fuchsia and Gold

Price from $254 to $362

A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): the hōō (鳳凰, phoenix) rising in gold bullion thread across a saturated fuchsia ground — a rare ceremonial colourway. Seamless envelope back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 30 cm. For emerald velvet or ivory, as a single chromatic note. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Hōō. The phoenix that rises only in peace. The Japanese phoenix — omen of virtue and divine renewal — woven here in resplendent gold bullion against saturated fuchsia silk. Against a saturated fuchsia-magenta silk ground — itself a rare colourway in the ceremonial obi tradition, reserved historically for occasions of great jubilation — the hōō ascends in resplendent metallic gold bullion thread. The tension between the fashion-forward magenta ground and the gold bullion tradition is precisely the point. The fuchsia gives the composition its declaration. The gold gives it its lineage. A pillow for emerald velvet, ivory upholstery, the single chromatic event in an otherwise restrained room — quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. Seamless envelope closure. No metal touches the visible silk. Product type Lumbar pillow cover Silk source Japanese ceremonial obi (pre-loved); origin Japan. Weave / technique Nishijin-ori 西陣織 (fukuro obi 袋帯) Motif Hōō 鳳凰 (phoenix — virtue and renewal), in gold bullion Construction Seamless envelope closure; no metal against the visible silk Dimensions 50 × 30 cm Origin of silk Japan Assembled in Amsterdam, Netherlands Care Spot clean only Unrepeatable Yes SKU REN-PIL-010-L Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Each piece arrives with its own passport from the atelier — a small handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam. One silk. One story. One piece. Never repeated.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
