The Copper Gold Royal Kiku — Japanese Ceremonial Silk Lumbar Pillow, Imperial Chrysanthemum in Copper and Gold

Price $362

A lumbar pillow cover in Japanese ceremonial silk, cut from a Nishijin fukuro obi (袋帯): the sixteen-petalled imperial kiku (菊, chrysanthemum) radiating in copper-gold thread from a silver centre on a burnished copper ground. Undyed linen reverse, envelope-pocket back, no metal against the silk; 50 × 31 cm. For aged brass, raw linen and warm oak. Spot clean only. Unrepeatable, finished at the Renaras atelier, Amsterdam. Kiku. The personal seal of the Emperor. The sixteen-petalled imperial chrysanthemum — the most venerated botanical symbol in the Japanese ceremonial vocabulary, here in disciplined monochrome metallic. Against a burnished copper silk ground — warm, deep, luminous in the way only fine ceremonial silk reads — the kiku radiates outward in copper-gold thread from a luminous silver centre. No secondary motifs. No competing narratives. Only the chrysanthemum, in disciplined monochrome metallic palette. The copper gives the composition its warmth. The kiku gives it its lineage. A pillow for aged brass, raw linen, travertine, warm oak — and a counterpoint to charcoal or forest green. Quiet beauty for ordinary moments, gathered around a shared table. The face is the original silk, backed in undyed linen. Envelope pocket closure. No metal touches the visible silk. Product type Lumbar pillow cover Silk source Japanese ceremonial obi (pre-loved); origin Japan. Weave / technique Nishijin-ori 西陣織 (fukuro obi 袋帯) Motif Kiku 菊 (sixteen-petalled imperial chrysanthemum — the Emperor's seal) Construction Envelope-pocket closure; undyed linen reverse; no metal against the visible silk Dimensions 50 × 31 cm Origin of silk Japan Assembled in Amsterdam, Netherlands Care Spot clean only Unrepeatable Yes SKU REN-PIL-007-L Renaras: Japanese ceremonial silk, reimagined for daily life. Each piece arrives with its own passport from the atelier — a small handmade record of the silk's first life and its transformation, signed and dated in Amsterdam. One silk. One story. One piece. Never repeated.

Renaras is an Amsterdam atelier that transforms vintage Japanese ceremonial silk (kimono, obi, furisode and uchikake) into contemporary objects for the home and wardrobe. Wall tapestries, silk textile paintings, bed runners, cushions, table runners, placemats, napkins, bottle sleeves and knot bags are each cut from a single textile, so every piece is unrepeatable. The practice follows mottainai, the Japanese conviction that nothing of value should be wasted. Silk woven for ceremony is given a second life rather than left folded away. Each piece is finished by skilled seamstresses and accompanied by a record of its provenance.
