That Moment Between Night and Day is an ode to transition — to the precise, fragile instant when the sleeping sea inhales the first light and the world shifts from indigo hush to a careful, luminous daybreak.

Visually, the work suspends itself between representation and suggestion. Rather than delineating a hard horizon, I let color and texture imply the meeting of sea and sky. A base of deep violet and amethyst at the lower plane suggests the residual weight of night; above it, rose-gold and warm ochres swell like an inner tide, lifting into pearlescent washes that recall mist, cloud, and the suggestion of surf. The surface is worked with layered, directional strokes and subtle scumbles so that light appears to move through the paint rather than merely resting on it. This creates a sense of depth and motion while preserving the abstract, contemplative quality of a landscape remembered more than observed.

Conceptually, the painting is concerned with thresholds. Dawn at sea is not merely a change of lighting; it is a re-ordering of perception — a moment when color, sound, and temperature reconfigure the self. I sought to capture that quiet recalibration: the hush that precedes full daylight, the way warm tones infiltrate cool ones, and the soft tension that accompanies any emergence. The piece is both literal and metaphoric — a seascape and an abstract meditation on renewal, pause, and possibility.

For collectors and viewers, the work invites slow looking. It rewards proximity (to read the textures) and distance (to feel the compositional sweep). My intention is that the painting become a space for reflection: a surface that calms as it activates memory.

Impressionist Expressions of Threshold Moments

Christine Goldbeck is a visionary artist based in York, Pennsylvania, whose work is a vibrant testament to the emotive power of nature. Her artistic journey is defined by a profound connection to the natural world, where landscapes, florals, and abstract forms serve as gateways to explore the intersection of calm and energy. Goldbeck’s paintings are characterized by their layered complexity, a signature style that combines mixed media, oil, pastel, and collage to evoke a dynamic sense of atmosphere and emotional depth.

Goldbeck's artistic process is one of accumulation and discovery. She meticulously builds her compositions through a series of layers, allowing each piece to evolve organically. This methodical approach results in surfaces rich with texture and movement, where the interplay of light and color creates a tactile and immersive experience. Her work defies the constraints of a single medium, embracing the spontaneity and control offered by her diverse materials. Through this, she captures the essence of nature not by mere representation, but by translating its inherent feelings and rhythms into visual form.

With a Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, Goldbeck continues to expand her artistic repertoire through ongoing mentorships and plein air competitions. Her dedication to lifelong learning reflects in her ever-evolving practice, where each new piece carries the weight of personal exploration and discovery. Collected nationally and internationally by private and corporate collectors, Christine has won numerous awards for her paintings and photography, notably a second-place win in a quick draw competition on Chincoteague Island, Virginia.

Christine Goldbeck’s art invites viewers to pause and reflect, to find their own sense of wonder within her evocative landscapes. As she looks to the future, Goldbeck is eager to reengage with galleries and collaborative sales relationships, sharing her unique vision with a broader audience. Her commitment to capturing the emotional presence of nature ensures that each painting is not only a depiction but a shared experience, resonating with both the external world and the internal landscapes of her viewers.
