Taburet — the Romanian word for stool — is a sculptural ceramic stool and side table by UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip, rooted in a deeply personal reference: the slightly wonky, well-used stools in the artist's grandmother's house. Each curve in the black vulcan stoneware body pushes the clay close to collapse before being dried quickly, capturing the fluid motion of the raw material and holding it in stone-like permanence.
The form is functional and sculptural at once — minimal, organic, and quietly radical in the way only genuinely considered objects tend to be. The near-collapse is not theatrics: it is an honest record of material at the edge of what it can hold, fixed into something that will carry weight for decades.
The raw, textured natural ceramic finish is true to the stoneware's own character — dark, granular, honest. No glaze, no surface treatment beyond what the material already offers. The piece carries the history of its making without apology.

Catalin Filip (b. 1989) is a Romanian-born, UK-based ceramicist and designer who develops his techniques through intuitive experimentation and trial and error. Self-taught in clay, he brings an architectural eye to functional sculpture — making objects that balance process and purpose.
