‘Less is More’ mural wrap around with Askew One for the first ever Temple Children curated exhibition. I’m inspired by Askew’s post to also speak on the personal experience we had painting here on 6th & Howard which is home to many people who are suffering from mental illness and hard drug addiction. Pretty much every interaction we had was positive and encouraging despite the obvious hardships, sadness and divides the street community here faces. I was aware of some irony in painting this near where so many had so little, but these positive responses were encouraging and I realized the sentiment could be shared and simply providing new art and color on the block was appreciated. It’s another personal experience in a string of several that’s made me more aware of mental health issues and my own anxieties that I constantly battle. I plan to follow through with more on this topic soon but for now if you feel mental pressure and the need to self medicate to escape reach out to others as you are definitely not alone.
