16 x 24 inches on heavy 100% cotton watercolor paper.
Although this looks like a block print, or screen print, it is a cyanotype, a type of 19th century cameraless photography also known as blueprints or sun prints.
Every one of my botanical cyanotypes is an entirely unique monotype as each blade of fresh-cut grass is laid by hand in that precise composition only once. I spend as much time planning and arranging the composition as I do exposing and rinsing the final print. There is no copper plate; there is no ink or printing press to make more than one copy.
Made with the tiny flowers of the California native buckhorn plantain, also known as ribwort plantain and lamb's ear. The tiny white dots are specks of pollen and teeny flower petals that came off the fresh-cut flowers while they lay in the sunlight during exposure.
