About: How can a piece get so soulful? What makes a rug endlessly gorgeous? You look at this rug and you get teleported back to a village in the remote regions near the mountains. You can see the goats and sheep roaming around the land. You can see the nomads doing tasks and taking care of their responsibilities. The sun is pounding down, the wind is mild, and the rivers and ponds are piercing blue. You see the earthy mountains in the backdrop, and you can see the grassy valleys freckled in amongst the canyon-like terrain. This is where this piece takes me, to the rough and rugged nomadic scenes this piece originated. Goat hair as the foundation, with organic sheep wool as the pile - natural dyes soak and bake into the wool before it's spun used to weave. Animals decorate and guard the motifs, blues hues fill this piece to honor Mother Natures gift, water; hard geometric lines represent the powerful mountains, flowers represent the delicacy of nature's soul, growing trees represent life and growth, and the human figure represents the people themselves... this piece is a story-telling snapshot of her life. How much more beautiful does it get? This piece is a work of art in every sense of the word, and we are so fortunate to be able to witness it. A piece that resonates with us on a primal level, and one that we should never take for granted. These pieces all transcend the artists themselves, but there are some pieces, like this one, that remind us just how raw and unapologetically beautiful, and simple, this world really is. Cherish this rug as it will not only elevate the space it finds, but it will fill your heart up through your eyes and ground you in perspective each time you glance at it and walk on it - which I hope is often. This piece has some wear on some areas of the binding which many clients like the untouched and raw look, otherwise I can always have my grandfather just tidy it up a bit as best as possible if you want, just let us know and we can do it for you.

This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.

Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.

Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!

We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
