String portrait commission of His Highness's Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the rulers of UAE for Bluewaters Island’s 5-star Caesars Resort lobby in Dubai.
Their images are embedded in the consciousness of the UAE’s citizenry, therefore the images were simplified, using their primary forms. On a large scale, their portraits are rendered in layers of colored elastic, each layer building on the overall effect. Behind these layers is a mirror to allow each visitor who passes to see his own reflection through these iconic portraits.
With strings, the portraits get dematerialized, thus the image vibrates and even fades away. The portraits are hand painted onto four different permeable layers, creating a multi-dimensional and transient effect.
