A pair of c.1890 Chinese giltwood carved arch panels, each mounted on its own solid wood backplate with a 2 cm floating gap — a striking focal point for above a fireplace, a console, or a sofa. The deep, arched openwork carving brings a quiet, architectural presence to intimate wall spaces.
These are surviving fragments from a traditional timber-framed structure, dating to circa 1890. Each panel features intricate foliate openwork carved in a graceful arch, with traces of original gilt and a rich, thick patina developed over more than a century. The openwork design allows light to filter through the pierced surfaces, casting delicate, shifting shadow patterns that move with the day’s changing light. Condition: The antique panels show natural wear consistent with age, including minor losses to the openwork carving — a quiet record of their history, not a flaw to be corrected.
