Embedded in these bags is a collaboration between highly skilled weavers from the north of Ghana, whose knowledge has been passed through generations.
Our bags are made using only the highest quality veta vera grass, carefully sourced, twisted, and woven by hand to ensure the utmost attention to detail.
Each bag is unique, with its own intricate design and vibrant colors that speak about cultures, places, and stories that our artisan partners wish to tell.

A statement piece for summer, our Saah tote bag is handwoven using traditional techniques from the North of Ghana. This oversized style, made from local straw, comes with a removable cloth handle and lining along with a drawstring to secure your belongings.

Aketekete connects Ghanaian artisans with customers, promoting sustainable, responsible, and ethical production of modern objects using traditional craft techniques.
The design process begins in the communities of our artisans. They share techniques, ideas, and inspiration and explore the process of creation as a team together with the designers. Our artisans are exceptionally talented and committed members of the team. Often we see our products pass through the hands of multiple artisans working in collaboration to deliver the finest final product.
We have decided to produce small batches of products and limited one-of-a-kind pieces to ensure a responsible work culture for our artisans and to protect their craft.
Some of our ‘pre-order’ products are specially made for you with love and patience. If this is the case, it may take a little more time for producing and delivering. It might take two to three weeks, but this is the beauty of the process, knowing that there is an artisan working to create something specifically for you.

OUR MATERIALS
Our goal is to live in harmony with nature by being responsible and thoughtful with the materials we use. We focus on using natural, locally sourced materials whenever possible and using handmade processes to avoid producing waste. We work to innovate and improve our practices and equip our team to do the same, minimizing our environmental impact.
Straw
Our baskets are made from natural fiber,'straw' or elephant grass, sourced from Ghana. This elastic and soft material allows for wet shaping. The straw is collected, dried, twisted, and dyed. Each basket takes 5–15 days to complete, requiring multiple processes. Each basket is unique, displaying the artisan's fingerprint, and we assure you will love it upon receipt.

SHIPPING INFORMATION
In an effort to keep shipping costs more affordable, we ship our baskets flattened. This does not hurt the baskets in any way, as they are very durable and flexible. Along with your package, you will find a document titled ‘How to wet your basket.’ This will provide you step-by-step instructions to easily reshape your basket in minutes.
*Shipping takes 3-5 days, and orders can be made through DHL Express Ghana or Spanish Correos. A tracking number is provided.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR BASKET
Our baskets are made from strong, flexible straw or elephant grass, suitable for various uses. However, due to its nature, we advise against humidity, direct sunlight, and dust. The plant-based dye process may cause the colors to become less bright and saturated over time.
Baskets with removable cloth handles are recommended for resistance and durability. While the basket can be used alone, regular use of the cloth ensures the handle's strength and prevents scratches between the basket and its handle.
TEXTILES & FABRICS
All our linings, handles, and any kind of fabric on our pieces are made from cotton or linen fabric overstock or curtains found in local markets. We recommend washing it by hand or with the dedicated mode 30ºC on the washing machine.

RETURNS AND EXCHANGES
Since AKETEKETE pieces are handmade products in which variations in colors, patterns, and sizes can be expected, AKETEKETE does not accept any return because of these irregularities.
However, if for any reason you are not happy with your purchase, you can contact us within 7 days after delivery. If accepted, you may return the goods, unused and undamaged, with the same label and box to the returning address we would provide you. The return postage must be paid by the customer. There is no return possibility on on-sale products.
