Handwoven in a wool flatweave, this 3x5 contemporary rug design is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—a reimagining of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions.

On the Design:

This is a new Swedish flat weave rug from our Morocco series of this line, representing a unique play of the Moroccan diamond pattern and Swedish Minimalism with an exemplary blend of undyed, natural yarns complementing the varied hues with a striated, abrashed look. This subtle intricacy both brings out the movement and pays homage to a traditional Scandinavian weaving technique alike. Teal, ice blue, gray and white tones underscore cubist geometric patterns inspired by the Berber motifs, which further enjoy a contemporary high-low texture with an added sense of depth, dimension, and movement.

Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.

A Legacy of Excellence Since the Beginning

Rug & Kilim is a New York–based institution devoted to the art of rugs, kilims, and tapestries. Founded in 1980 by Jahanshah “Josh” Nazmiyal, we began as a humble family workshop and have grown into one of the most respected authorities in the field—without ever losing the intimacy and integrity that define our boutique ethos. For over four decades, we’ve served collectors, designers, and connoisseurs who value craftsmanship, soul, and above all, rarity.

In 1989, Rug & Kilim celebrated a major milestone with the opening of its second store in Morristown, New Jersey. The business quickly established itself as a national source for the finest Oriental rugs, offering a wide-ranging collection from Persia, Tibet, India, Pakistan, Russia, and China. Known for its expertise, curated selection, and exceptional customer service, Rug & Kilim became synonymous with quality, integrity, and a deep understanding of color and design. The firm’s commitment to placing rare and distinguished pieces in homes and collections across the country has remained at the heart of its philosophy for decades.
