The Rocket Floor Lamp is a hand-carved sculptural floor lamp from the Erosion Collection by Gabor Gobi, constructed from reclaimed mid-century wood that holds the trace of its previous form. The Yakisugi-charred shaft rises through a hand-worked body to a painted artisanal shade that catches light at a different angle from every position. Between the darkened timber below and the luminous shade above, the lamp poses its central question: what persists, and what is transformed.
Material is chosen for its history — reclaimed mid-century wood, residual limestone, cork. The Yakisugi technique deepens the wood's surface, which then receives natural oils and a beeswax finish. Hand-carving respects the grain, following imperfection rather than correcting it.
The intervention leaves its record on the surface — scorched, carved, finished into a texture that reads as both deliberate and weathered. No two pieces cast the same warmth or shadow.
