"Red Bellied Black Snake" is a sumi-e (Japanese Brush Painting) in my series of minimalist zen artworks. I used traditional soot ink and powerful brush strokes, as I do in all my paintings, in order to create a lasting visual impression. Art buyers and art lovers often remark on my interpretation of traditional Asian masters as I pay homage to their artistic vision but have a contemporary modern twist in my own art.
"Red Bellied Black Snake" is a giclee print reproduction of an original sumi-e (Japanese Brush Painting) by professional artist Brazen Edwards, using Epson Ultrachrome professional archival ink printed on Somerset Velvet, which has the look and feel of watercolour paper.
On a trip to Australia I ran across this little fellow, the Red Bellied Black Snake! Though its venom is capable of causing significant morbidity, it is not generally fatal and is less venomous than other deadly Australian snakes. However it is one of Australia's best known snakes, as it is common in urban areas along the eastern coast of Australia.
The Snake has a better reputation in the East than the West. The Snake represents rebirth, renewal and healing. Serpentine or wavy symbols will have the effect of encouraging qualitative changes in whatever area they are placed.
