The Vulcan Black Rakis Lite Table Lamp is a sculptural ceramic table lamp and desk lamp by UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip — a vertical, ridged stoneware form built around the tension between structural strength and material fragility. Its compact scale suits a bedside, console, or shelf: present enough to hold the room, restrained enough not to dominate it.
Each Rakis piece is built around a central vertical stem, its curves pushed toward collapse before being dried quickly to preserve the movement of the clay. The result holds at the threshold — strength and fragility occupying the same form, neither resolving the other.
The exterior carries the raw, textured natural finish of the stoneware — dark and granular, with the honest character of material that has not been smoothed away. Inside, an antique white glaze reflects warmth from the aperture, casting soft, directional light.
Rakis Lite works as a mood or ambient accent light in residential and boutique commercial interiors. Available in Black Vulcan and White Cream. Compatible with 110–130V and 220–230V systems.
Catalin Filip makes sculptural ceramic lamps and objects from his studio in St Leonards-on-Sea, UK. Romanian-born and self-taught in ceramics, he bends, pulls, and stretches raw clay to capture the moment before it sets — a practice as much about listening to the material as shaping it.
