Seamlessly bridging centuries of imperial elegance with contemporary interior design, this Museum Edition Qing Dynasty Qianlong Style Famille Rose Panoramic "Noble Steeds in Landscape" Winter Melon Vase (Donggua Vase) is a masterclass in traditional Chinese porcelain artistry. Designed to serve as a profound visual anchor, its dignified, naturally flowing silhouette, luminous porcelain texture, and vibrant carmine red accents bring a sophisticated Oriental aesthetic that effortlessly elevates both modern Western living spaces and refined Eastern studies
The Art of Reproduction & Lineage
This piece is born from a profound dedication to preserving intangible cultural heritage. Rooted in a family lineage descending directly from the official imperial kilns (Guan Yao) of the Song Dynasty, our co-designers Yuchen and Judy, alongside the master artisans, meticulously reproduce museum-level masterpieces. This specific vase is a faithful homage to esteemed imperial kiln artifacts, capturing the supreme regal aesthetics and solemn grandeur of the classical era.
The Imperial Carmine Red "Bahua" (Sgraffito Famille Rose) & Gold Gilding Craftsmanship
Historically celebrated as "Jin Shang Tian Hua" (Adding Flowers to Brocade), the intangible cultural heritage art of Famille Rose Sgraffito (Zhadao / Bahua) represents the zenith of intricate ceramic mastery. Artisans first apply a bright, auspicious layer of Carmine Red (Yanzhihong / Rouge Red) glaze onto the neck and lower body via traditional hand-blown glazing techniques to create a radiant ground over the thin, lustrous white porcelain body. Using a fine, embroidery-needle-like tool, master craftsmen meticulously hand-incise thousands of hair-fine phoenix-tail scrollwork patterns resembling brocade into the glaze before layering exquisite Famille Rose floral and scrolling tendril motifs on top—achieving the rich, three-dimensional artistic effect of painted enamel on copper. Crowned with a hand-gilded rim infused with real gold pigment, the vessel undergoes complex double firing with an exceptionally low yield rate, making every surviving piece a rare treasure.
The Motif — Panoramic Steeds in Landscape ("Ma Dao Cheng Gong" / Immediate Success)
The smooth, tranquil glaze of the central belly serves as a continuous 360-degree panoramic canvas (Tongjinghua)—an art form representing the pinnacle of East-West cultural exchange, famously exemplified by the monumental panoramic mural preserved in the Studio of Exhaustion from Diligent Service (Juanqinzhai) in the Forbidden City:
- Auspicious Steeds ("Ma Dao Cheng Gong"): Depicting noble horses amidst majestic mountains, the composition carries the timeless Oriental blessing of "Ma Dao Cheng Gong"—heralding immediate triumph, career momentum, and smooth success
- Dual Poetic Vignettes ("Shuang Ma Ya Hui" & "Wo Ma Yi Qing"): The panoramic narrative transitions seamlessly between the dynamic grace of paired horses conversing beneath ancient trees ("Paired Steeds in Elegant Harmony") and the serene leisure of a chestnut steed resting beside scholar rocks and blossoms ("Reclining Steed in Tranquil Repose")
- East-West Artistic Synthesis: Showcasing a masterful fusion of global aesthetics, the nuanced shading and coloration of the horses reflect classical Western painting influences, while the distant misty peaks and gnarled trees preserve the poetic brushwork of traditional Chinese landscape painting.
