Pond lilies are such a feature of the waters around Magnetewan in Ontario's north in the summertime. Kayaking or canoeing, you experience these beautiful works of engineering really directly- they are amazing. I shot this image with film that was not meant to be used outside and wasn't meant to be colour balanced for the sun and I think that is how this strange effect came to be. The ripples of the water are lyrical and undulate while the lilies themselves appear to glow in groups, river grass blades vibrate in gold. This image, as well as all the images in the manifest dream series, are printed on metallic paper which increases the sheen and overall effect.

Since my graduation in 1994 from Ontario college of art, there has been a nagging voice in my head. The head of the fine arts program said to me months before I finished, that it was "now time for you to unlearn the past 4 years, de-institutionalize yourself and rediscover why you liked art and what was unique about you when you entered school"

I have been on this journey of self and artistic discovery for 20 years now, looking at artwork all over the world and creating diverse and wholly different bodies of artwork in different mediums.
