Experience the architectural elegance of the Ming Dynasty. A timeless legacy, breathing in your living space.
Concept
The Southern Official Hat Scholar's Armchair Set represents a refined evolution of Ming Dynasty heritage. Developed by Yuchen after an extensive study of ancient scrolls and museum collections, this design transforms classical proportions into a contemporary masterpiece. This original work by Yuchen and Judy is crafted with a focus on Golden Ratios and executed using traditional hand tools including drawknives and precision chisels. Each piece is hand joined using Pipe pot Tenons ensuring a seamless nail free structure with a unique handcrafted character.
The structural integrity is defined by continuous back legs carved from a single piece of wood and S shaped backrests featuring a three section frame. The upper section contains an intricately pierced Ruyi openwork while the lower section is accented with elegant aprons. The seating area utilizes a recessed panel construction known as Luo Dang Cai Gu for added comfort and visual depth. The base is reinforced with stepping stretchers that rise in height to symbolize professional advancement.
The set is crafted from Imperial Cinnabar Ironwood an exceptionally dense heartwood that exceeds the density of water. Each piece is finished in our Westborough studio with a multi stage botanical wax polish to highlight the natural grain and deep crimson luster.
