Pendulu is a sculptural ceramic desk lamp and table lamp by UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip — a work built around equilibrium, modular composition, and the quiet drama of forms held in careful balance. Its interdependent black vulcan stoneware elements are weighted and positioned to gently pendulate, creating a living interplay of movement and counterweight. Structured and organic at once.
The piece reflects the logic found in natural systems: forces in conversation, fragility made visible through deliberate arrangement. Each element contributes its own weight and presence; together they form a composition that neither geometry nor instinct could have produced alone.
The exterior stoneware carries the raw, textured natural finish of black vulcan clay — matte, dark, with genuine material presence. Inside each aperture, an antique white glaze casts a warm, soft glow that complements the kinetic character of the form.
Pendulu works as a collectible statement piece in residential interiors, galleries, and boutique commercial spaces. Its pendulating quality benefits from placement where light air movement can be felt. Compatible with 110–130V and 220–230V systems.
Catalin Filip is a self-taught ceramicist and designer based on the south coast of England. Born in Romania, he came to clay through a background in architecture, developing an experimental practice that lets the material — and gravity — take the lead.

A self-taught ceramicist who bends, pulls, and stretches raw clay — capturing the movement of natural forces in stone-like, functional sculpture.

Cătălin Filip (b. 1989) is a Romanian-born, UK-based artist and designer specialising in ceramic art. Growing up in post-communist Romania, he experienced a time of creative tension: newfound freedoms allowed for artistic expression, but limited resources compelled artists to be inventive. This environment fostered a spirit of experimentation and a deep appreciation for alternative processes that continues to define his practice.
Filip makes sculptural ceramic lamps and object installations inspired by the natural responses of raw clay to forces such as gravity. By bending, pulling, and stretching the material, he captures the fluidity and movement of clay, transforming it into stone-like finished forms. His work echoes the organic distortions found in nature — carved hills, wind-bent trees, the dynamic forces that shape the world. Each piece retains traces of its own making.
A self-taught ceramicist, he approaches clay as a medium for discovery, developing techniques through patient trial and error. His background in architecture adds a complementary focus on structure and design, enabling him to create work that balances artistic expression with functional purpose. Since moving to the UK in 2014 he has settled in St Leonards-on-Sea on the south coast of England. His work has been exhibited internationally, including presentations in the Netherlands, Romania, Greece, and Mexico, and at the British Ceramics Biennale, where he received the Fresh Talent Prize. He has been named an Emerging Artist by Ceramic Review (2023) and featured in Elle Decoration, House & Garden, and We The Cool Magazine.
