This drawing is made with a beautiful coppery charcoal made by the artist from peanuts. The charcoal and oil adhere to the paper to create a rich and satin textured drawing. The drawing is gestural and bold, but also sophisticated and elegant. This drawing is sold, but Smith can be commissioned to make drawings with peanut charcoal. Smith also makes drawings with sunflower seed charcoal. These have a different character. See Smith's profile for examples.

Meet the Creator

My art creates a feeling of interconnectedness and ambiguity so that we can experience the world a little differently.

I create abstract and representational oil paintings. I paint wet into wet and often mix colors on the canvas to blur the boundaries between objects. My intent is to create a feeling of interconnectedness and ambiguity so that we can experience the world a little differently. I also create charcoal from unique materials such as money, food, documents and plants. These materials have meanings that I can integrate into a drawing or painting.
