Peace & Prosperity is a pair of c.1920 Chinese giltwood openwork panels, reimagined as floating wall sculptures. Each panel is carved with a central vase motif — the vase (瓶, píng) is a homophone for peace (平, píng) in Chinese culture, surrounded by scrolling peonies that symbolise prosperity. Together, they form a visual blessing for a peaceful and abundant life.
These are surviving architectural salvage fragments from a traditional timber-framed structure. The original gilt has worn to reveal a rich, stable patina over a century. The minor imperfections are not flaws, but the fingerprints of time — a surface that cannot be replicated.
Mounted on solid wood backplates with a 2 cm floating gap, the pair casts delicate shadows that shift through the day. Each panel measures 9.8ʺW × 11.8ʺH (25 cm × 30 cm). Pre-installed hanging hardware included. Display together as a matching pair, or separately as complementary accents.
One-of-a-kind pair.
