The trail over Independence Pass in Colorado is filled with the most incredible wildflowers and hummingbirds. Vivid color and the fresh-flowered scent fill your senses with pleasure as you make your way to the peak.

This view of the Continental Divide lives in my happy place memory bank. I spent some of the most glorious summers writing poetry while sitting in this meadow, being visited by curious hummingbirds. In this painting, I worked to capture the essence of this space with color and light–and the dreamy emotion it evokes for me still. The deep marks I made as I painted with my fingers add to the impression of this scene.
I like to incorporate the edges of the canvas into my art; this expands the work, giving the viewer a different perspective from each side. I have signed this painting on the front, and the back contains the title, materials I used, my name, signature again, the year, and the dimensions.
