This abstract painting began with some "stream-of-consciousness" collaging where I mine a pile of magazines and paper for bits of text and images that catch my eye. These get sliced up and added to the canvas along with some initial marks to create an entry point to the work. I then began adding paint and line work; scratching, adding and removing as I went. At a certain point I begin to see the composition. Once I'm at this point I am able to follow my subconscious thread and continue until I feel the piece is done. With my abstract work I a go from where I know to where I don't know and back again. I think the imagery and the colour palette of this painting is full of hope and joy; a suggestion of good things yet to come.
