These obvara vases are truly something special. Each one is entirely unique. I fire each vase individually until its glowing a dull cherry red, then I pull it out of the kiln and quickly submerge it in a mixture of flour, water and yeast. The proteins and sugars in the mix immediately burn onto the surface of the pot giving each one a unique pattern of mottling and speckles.
