This work was started just after the onset of covid. It was experimental & improvisational. Many of the materials that are used I created myself from tinted-mortar which I allowed to cure & then cut, just as I would stone. I worked on it throughout those secluded times, on & off between other projects, and let it grow and meander as my mood fluctuated. I declared it completed when the pandemic was declared over, though everyone knew there was “No End in Sight”.

The work is highly textural, making you want to reach out & touch it.

Cut and arranged with passion and spontaneity, ​I strive to create texture & movement; ​something you want to reach out and touch!

Hi, I’m Gila Rayberg. I create expressive, whimsical mosaic portraits using upcycled dishes alongside traditional materials. Each piece blends my love for texture, color, and storytelling.

After a career as a freelance musician and educator, I discovered my unique artistic voice in mosaic art, inspired by years of travel around the world, especially in Southeast Asia. The rich cultures and vibrant art I experienced there continue to influence my work. I was honored to be invited to two international mosaic symposiums, during which I created work for a Museum of Contemporary Mosaics, in Italy and Patagonia.

We have done six mosaic workshops with Gila and always appreciate her instruction and facilitation of completion of our works. We recognized that conversion of the Elizabeth Catlett's Three American Women to mosaic was well beyond our capability. We commissioned Gila to do this mosaic. She is a superb artist. She did an excellent job. We love this piece so much that we commissioned her to do the complementary artwork The Children by Catlett. That mosaic is in process. We are excited at the prospect of displaying these impactful art works about America's future. Do a workshop at her home in Pensacola FL or at locations around the US. Whether you are a novice or a skilled mosaicist you will have fun and learn alot. And better yet, you will have the satisfaction of creating your own mosaic. The combination of mosaic making, best US beaches, and excellent restaurants in Pensacola is delightful.

Gila was amazing to work with, very helpful with taking my idea and making it a masterpiece! She was wonderful with giving me color palette options, grout color samples, and communication all around. The mosaic backsplash is stunning in my new kitchen. Highly recommend!

We were looking for a unique backsplash for our lake home and commissioned Gila for the task. I sent her a vague idea of what we were looking for along with a description of our style and pictures of the area. She created the perfect piece, the color choices and style were spot on, we couldn’t have been happier with it.

When the statue of the patron saint of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church fell out of a rotting alcove above the entrance, we decided the statue needed to be sited in a less hazardous way. So, we explored the idea of a piece of artwork to fill the space, something beautiful and durable. We decided a mosaic would do the trick. We looked online with little inspiration, and then an artist friend suggested we check out Gila Rayberg. We visited her and it took about two seconds to know she was our artist for the project. Her mosaics are gorgeous, creative, so original. She provided us with three or four paintings as potential designs for the window. The one you see in the picture won the most votes. Her pricing was amazingly reasonable for the quality and originality of her work. We were sold. She delivered the final in a very reasonable time, and once we installed it, we were thrilled with it. We HIGHLY recommend Gila - off the charts talented and a delightful personality.
