"Lay Off the Drugs" - Murals

Creator not accepting inquiries

A freestyle, hand painted mural created directly in relation to the surrounding space; a local artist community building. The design comes partly from visual recall of recent studies of gum trees; but also in response to the physicality of hand painting a mural of this size on various surfaces with rollers and brushes. The title is a tongue in cheek reference to the concept of critical thinking as an addictive habit; this mural was an attempt at a new process of painting first, thinking later.

Painting as a way of connecting to how we move through the world and experience the space around us.

Katie Whyte is an Australian abstract artist based in Queensland, Australia. Studying how painting can influence our understanding of space, she completed a Bachelor (Honours) of Visual Arts at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba. Over the past 15 years, Whyte's painting practice has explored the parallel between the process of deriving meaning from vision and the abstraction of painted forms. This has been realised in studio work, painting exhibitions, street art festivals and mural commissions for commercial clients such as WeWork.
