The Cesar Chavez mural was dedicated on May 5, 1995, about seven months after the San Francisco State University Student Union was renamed after Chavez. Created by Carlos “Kookie” Gonzalez, this piece that adorns Cesar Chavez Student Center also depicts a torch and a bird, both symbols of triumph and strength.
