Movement Phase 3 is a collectible ceramic vessel and wall sculpture by Romanian-born, UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip — a black vulcan stoneware form pushed further into collapse than its predecessors, slumped and folded and fixed to its plinth with a ratchet strap. The strap is not incidental: it restrains, frames, and draws attention directly to the fragility the work is exploring. Grounded and precarious in equal measure.
Each Movement Phase piece begins as a form under pressure — black vulcan stoneware pulled, folded, and allowed to respond to its own weight. The clay is fixed at the moment it seems about to give way entirely, the slump and sag preserved in stone-like permanence. What you see is exactly what happened.
The finish is unglazed and deliberately raw: a deep, granular black that records every mark of handling and carries the temperature of the material. The surface rewards slow looking — the more attention it receives, the more it returns.
Movement Phase 3 is designed for display as a standalone sculptural object in residential interiors, gallery spaces, and architectural commercial environments. The ratchet strap is included and integral to the piece.
Catalin Filip is a self-taught ceramicist and designer based on the south coast of England. Born in Romania, he came to clay through a background in architecture, developing an experimental practice that lets the material — and gravity — take the lead.
