Movement Phase 2 is a collectible ceramic vessel and hanging sculpture by Romanian-born, UK-based ceramicist Catalin Filip — a black vulcan stoneware form that reads like melting clay caught and held, mid-dissolve, in stone-like permanence. More concentrated in scale than Phase 1, it carries the same suspended quality in a form that repays close attention.
Each Movement Phase piece begins as a form under pressure — black vulcan stoneware pulled, folded, and allowed to respond to its own weight. The clay is fixed at the moment it seems about to give way entirely, the slump and sag preserved in stone-like permanence. What you see is exactly what happened.
The finish is unglazed and deliberately raw: a deep, granular black that records every mark of handling and carries the temperature of the material. The surface rewards slow looking — the more attention it receives, the more it returns.
Movement Phase 2 works as a solitary object on a plinth, shelf, or console in residential and gallery environments. Its scale suits intimate settings as easily as it fits into a wider installation.
Catalin Filip (b. 1989) is a Romanian-born, UK-based ceramicist and designer who develops his techniques through intuitive experimentation and trial and error. Self-taught in clay, he brings an architectural eye to functional sculpture — making objects that balance process and purpose.
