The Concept
This Southern Official Hat Armchair Trio, traditionally known as the Scholar’s Chair, represents a masterly evolution of Ming Dynasty aesthetics by designers Yuchen and Judy. Drawing from the mid-Qing Su-style tradition documented in historical archives, this set rejects the heavy ornamentation of palace styles in favor of refined, intellectual elegance. It serves as a bridge between Eastern heritage and Western elite culture, embodying a harmonious dialogue where tradition and modernity coexist.
The Craft and Material
The set is executed in Imperial Midnight Black-Gold Wood, a legendary timber of sink-in-water density that ensures the eternal value of a true legacy piece. The wood's obsidian-dark surface is punctuated by cold, crystalline gold glimmers that emerge under the light.
Design Details: The backrest features a central inlay of rare natural marble (Yunshi), displaying a unique, painterly landscape created by nature. This is framed by hand-chiseled Han Chinese Shou (Longevity) motifs, symbolizing a wish for enduring vitality.
The Structure: Every joint is secured through traditional nail-free mortise and tenon joinery. This sophisticated structural purity ensures that the furniture remains stable and integral for generations.
