I begin a painting, and I end it.
It’s a push and a pull, an ebb and a flow. It’s my roller-coaster and I have to ride it to get anywhere. Sometimes it’s rough, sometimes gentle. Paint goes on the canvas, then more and more until I feel like I have a base to work with. Then I’m ready to start. I’ve finally landed and yet it’s just begun.
I absorb my surroundings - quite meditatively - no plan, just influence from my surroundings, ideas, things, people, places, music and what is right in front of me on the canvas.
Then I LEAP.
At that moment the only way forward is a big change. I have to. That’s the leap. It’s graphic, linear, energetic with shifting planes of colour and moods. Blue violets and bold colours are the threads connecting my work before the leap. I get lost in these paintings. The layers tell a story. Unexpected imagery emerges from within the shapes, resonating with everyone, in their way, just waiting to be (re)discovered.
