La Huerta means The Orchard.
This piece is a commission, made for a collector in Salinas, California, and it has already found its home. I am showing it here as an example of the commission work I take on.
Liz first came to me through the Flower of Life Half Moon. Then she saw a photo of The Autumn, one of my most personal originals, and she was drawn to it. I knew I could not replicate that piece, but I could create something that carried the same spirit. So I let the season guide me. The colors came from an orchard in full bloom, right at that moment when the apples are heavy on the branch and the light turns golden.
Even the rope itself is botanical. That soft lavender grey is black bean dye. Nature made every part of this piece, from the cotton to the wool to the dye to the living plants hanging in their glass orbs.
The Autumn has always been tied to running for me, the movement, the rhythm, the quiet strength of it. When I found out Liz is a runner too, it felt like this piece was always meant for her.
The piece grows as the plants grow.
Materials: black bean dyed rope, organic cotton, wool, glass terrariums, live air plants.
Dimensions: 46 inches high by 30 inches wide by 1.5 inches deep, 6 inches deep including the glass terrariums.
One of a kind, part of the Raíces series, 2026. Made by hand in my studio in Incline Village, Lake Tahoe. Commissions in this style are available, please inquire.
