The Concept
Born from Yuchen's obsession with ancient Ming Dynasty scrolls and Judy's vision for timeless elegance, Dynasty Artisan bridges the gap between Eastern heritage and the modern Western home. In our Westborough, MA studio, we translate centuries of craftsmanship into a living sanctuary. Inspired by the iconic Ming Dynasty Southern Official's Hat Armchair (Nanguanmaoyi) cataloged by the legendary Wang Shixiang and originally housed in the Museum of Classical Chinese Furniture in California, this seating trio represents a masterly evolution of aesthetic power. Revered by Jiangnan literati, it is engineered to anchor modern executive spaces, ensuring every piece serves as a timeless bridge between the soul of the past and the dignity of your home.
The Craft and Material
Meticulously executed in Imperial Midnight Black-Gold timber—an extraordinary heartwood that sinks instantly in water. Dancing with cold golden gleams within the ultimate abyss of black, its sinking-grade density locks in the eternal value of a generational masterwork. This legendary timber plunges immediately beneath the surface, a physical testament to its immense mass, structural strength, and eternal durability. It offers an unparalleled aesthetic of scholarly dignity, engineered for the eternal preservation of value.
The Details
The sculpted crest rail joins seamlessly with the upright stiles via classic pipe-bowl joinery, while the sinuous S-curved armrests and gooseneck posts embrace the sitter, balancing profound antique charm with an authoritative presence. At the center of the contoured solid-wood backsplat rests an intricate hand-carved relief medallion of symmetrical archaic twin dragons (Chilong)—poised in regal equilibrium to symbolize auspicious authority and scholarly nobility. Completing the trio, the matching tea table features clean architectural lines anchored by a delicate openwork ice-ray lattice lower shelf, blending visual lightness with refined utility.
