Acrylic palette knife painting on canvas

This painting brought back a distant memory from long ago, and I feel I have to explain the title.

When I was growing up in NJ, we used to spend our days at the beach. You may not know that New Jersey has a huge coastline of beautiful beaches. Anyway, back then, in the 1950's, my dad would drive us to Long Branch. The surf was very rough and I remember hanging on to a rope to keep from being swept away by the undertow. My mom would yell out in Portuguese, "segure corda", which translated means "hold the rope". Well, many times the waves would wash over me, and I still remember the sting of salt water in my nose and eyes.
It's funny how abstract paintings can sometimes bring back memories from so long ago.

This original, semi-abstract impressionistic acrylic palette knife painting is stretched on a 1.5" deep gallery wrap canvas. Only the finest professional quality acrylic paints were used in the creation of this artwork. The sides of the painting are painted black, making framing unnecessary. It is signed on the side, dated and signed on the back. The painting is wired and ready to hang as soon as it arrives. Finished with a clear, protective acrylic varnish for easy care.

"To create a powerful and moving image is a gratifying experience for any artist. To have that image appreciated by the viewer is an even greater joy."

As a contemporary artist working in acrylics, Filomena's paintings are inspired by the natural beauty around her on Florida's Nature Coast. Her goal is to capture the mood of the moment on canvas, whether in an entirely abstract painting or in an impressionistic interpretation of a natural scene. Her work reflects her love of color and the interplay of light and texture.

Filomena's original, contemporary paintings elicit emotional responses from viewers and are frequently described as "beautiful". Her paintings may, at times, be subtle and at other times bold and vibrant. Strong composition, visual texture, bold use of color and trusting her intuition are just some of the elements she employ as she explores the possibilities of the blank canvas.

Her journey as an artist began many years ago. After several years as a high school art teacher and several more years raising her 3 sons, she was finally able to devote herself to creating art. What initially began as a project to decorate her own home, quickly became a full-time business of supplying custom art to interior designers in the Tampa Bay area. In time, she "discovered" the internet and began showing her work to the world. Her original paintings are found in private and corporate collections throughout the US and Europe.
