Harvest Avocado is one of the latest pieces in my series of inkle woven works. Its title comes from the two most popular colors from 1970s décor, Harvest Gold and Avocado. These warm and earthy tones as well as a revival in craft became popular at that time in relation to the start of the environmental movement. Today, 50 years later, we find ourselves in the midst of a climate crisis that urgently needs to be addressed.
The inkle woven patterned bands criss cross and grow in an organic way like a mass of vines. Harkening back to the color choices of an earthy 1970s palate draws attention to the fact that we are no closer to living within the limits of Earth’s natural systems.
Humans are interwoven with the planet's ecosystems, intricately connected to the delicate balance of nature. Just as the threads of my compositions intersect and evolve, our lives are intricately tied to the health of the Earth's ecosystems.
By merging tradition with contemporary influences and addressing the pressing climate crisis, my art serves as a reflection of our times, prompting awareness and dialogue about the need for action in a world where the environment is in crisis. It's a reminder that our fates are interwoven with the planet's.
