36" x 24" x 2" paper collage and pencil color on masonite.

Part of a collaboration with a poet friend of mine. The idea of the fragility of life and memory. The deconstruction of our memory as it fades or evolves over time, overlaid by our fragile nature that we try to hide. We put forward a picture of ourselves that is strong and positive, yet many times we are suffering. This isn't allowed in American culture, where we are all moving from success to success, without taking the time to process or lament the parts of our lives that are broken. We gloss over those elements of ourselves without giving them the time needed to heal, and because of that, many of us are a hair's breadth away from falling apart.

Mixed Media Collage

I create mixed-media collage by hand in my Chicago studio, using printed ephemera like fragments of magazines, books, manuals, photos, and documents that carry the memory of their own histories. The vast majority have collected both dust and time. Each fragment is a trace of lived experience: a visual memory that I'm privileged to discover and re-imagine.

Recognition
• I've exhibited my work in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Fort Worth and Louisiana. My work has been featured in art magazines both in the U.S. and abroad.
