Lyrical Colorist Oil Paintings & Prints
Cameron Schmitz is a painterly, color-driven oil painter whose work explores visual perception through active, expressive brushwork and intuitive mark-making. Her paintings unfold through a process-led approach, where gestural strokes, dashes, and layered passages of color build a sense of shifting, illusory space. With a background in both landscape and figurative painting, her work remains grounded in observation—particularly in the experience of light, atmosphere, and the interaction of color—even as it moves beyond direct representation.
Based in Western Massachusetts, Schmitz is also a dedicated teacher and mentor, guiding artists in both studio practice and professional development. Her teaching emphasizes the integration of observation and intuition, encouraging artists to develop authentic, sustainable creative practices. Through workshops, mentorship programs, and exhibitions, she supports artists in refining their voice while navigating the broader landscape of an art career.
She received her MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and BFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of New Hampshire. Her work has been featured at institutions that include Kyoto Seika University, Emory University, Fitchburg Art Museum, Northern Arizona University Art Museum, Green Mountain College, and The National Arts Club in New York, NY. Her work is included in national and international permanent collections that include New York-Presbyterian Hospitals, UVM Medical Center, Lahey Medical Centers, Wells Fargo, and Almoosa Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Notable press includes spotlight features in Fresh Paint Magazine, Professional Artist Magazine, and a featured guest interviewed on the popular podcast, Savvy Painter.
