This is a 72x108" acrylic and pastel painting on unstretched canvas. This is absolutely a statement piece that is meant to set a mood. My preferred orientation is vertical, since it gives the sense of being immersed or under water given the size of the piece. This piece has a beautiful balance of warm and cool, and feels loose while still guiding the eye around the canvas.

I had no ideas for how I wanted this piece to look when I started it, but I knew I wanted to make something big enough that I felt small next to it. It's hard to paint something when you can't see all of it at the same time, but it was exhilarating. I love that balance of warm and cool, the meandering composition, and the way this feels like a real departure from my previous work.

I make art that celebrates finding joy in the ordinary.

Originally from Kansas City, I grew up in a loud and passionate family that taught me self-expression as a basic instinct and necessity to get a word in at the dinner table. Fiery, honest and emotional since the womb, I’ve never known another way of being. I've been creating professionally for 4 years from my home studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma where I live with my husband, Jeremy, our daughter, Layla, and two rescue cats, Baker and Pablo.
