“Embers at the Treeline” is a richly textured wall sculpture that captures the quiet transition between forest and firelight—where deep earth tones meet subtle warmth and fading glow. Inspired by the natural layering of landscape and light, this piece evokes the feeling of standing at the edge of the woods as daylight recedes and embers begin to emerge.

Framed in solid black walnut, the composition is grounded by a refined, architectural border that contrasts beautifully with the intricate, organic interior.

Material & Composition

The interior surface is composed of hundreds of individually cut pieces of reclaimed wood, carefully arranged in a geometric pattern that gradually shifts in tone and depth.

Natural mossy greens, muted reds, and rich brown hues create a layered, atmospheric gradient
Each wood fragment retains its original character—weathering, grain variation, and patina
No two sections are alike, giving the piece a sense of movement and quiet complexity

The combination of structured geometry and organic material results in a composition that feels both controlled and naturally evolved.

Craftsmanship & Finish

Each element is cut, placed, and assembled by hand in my studio, using reclaimed materials sourced for their history and visual character.

Set within a solid black walnut hardwood frame
Finished with a protective clear coat to preserve tone and texture
Designed for long-term stability with no maintenance required
Presentation & Installation
Hand-signed and dated on the reverse
Includes a custom mounting system for secure, flush wall installation
Built to a gallery-level standard, suitable for both residential and curated spaces

I create sculptural wall pieces that explore rhythm, landscape, and form.

Hi, my name is Craig Forget, and I am a Canadian reclaimed wood artist living and working in Essex, Ontario.

I feel fortunate to be part of a growing art movement in the Windsor–Detroit region. It’s inspiring to work within a creative community that values originality, craftsmanship, and personal expression. I’m committed to this path for the long haul, focusing on creating truly unique pieces using the most distinctive reclaimed wood I can find. For me, it’s the history and character of old wood that makes each piece one of a kind.

My appreciation for woodworking began at a young age, but over time I discovered my true passion: building original artwork from reclaimed barn wood. What excites me most about these materials is the element of discovery. Local barns—some between 80 and 200 years old—offer an incredible variety of wood, each board shaped by time, weather, and use. Every find feels like uncovering a hidden treasure.

What sets my work apart is my constant search for wood rich in natural character. No manufactured finish can replicate the colors and textures created by time and the elements. Ninety-five to one hundred percent of the color in my artwork comes from the wood itself—never from stain. As wood ages over decades, it naturally darkens. Boards stored inside barns develop deep brown tones, while those exposed outdoors take on weathered grey hues.

When you purchase one of my pieces, you’re not just acquiring wall art—you’re taking home a piece of pioneer history, from a time when craftsmanship relied on hand tools and hard work rather than modern machinery.

I create wooden wall sculptures and reclaimed wood artwork inspired by natural textures, material history, and the quiet beauty found in aged wood.

This piece is amazing! Exceptional quality and craftsmanship, with a unique design. After searching for a statement piece for my living room for so long, nothing feeling right, I knew when I found Craig’s work this was it. It’s truly a piece of art, very grounding with the wood, and I love how the mountains/moon are somewhat subtle- some might look and see a geometric pattern at first, then realize it’s more than just random shapes which brings a sense of awe. Craig answered all of my questions before ordering and even provided his contact info if I ran into any issues hanging it with the hardware provided. He created it quicker than expected, and it arrived packaged very well to protect it in transit.

This all-black wood starburst looks fantastic. I needed a custom size (diameter), and Craig accommodated my needs. The differing "heights" of the individual triangular wood pieces, along with the way that they meet perfectly at a point in the center of the circle, make this piece of wall art stunning to view. I have plans to order several more of Craig's starbursts in other color combinations.

Craig custom made this piece bigger for us, and it is so beautiful. The colors change when the sun moves across the wood. It comes with a sturdy frame so it sits flush against the wall and is secure. As far as communication, Craig was excellent answering my many questions. I hope to have money to buy another piece...one day
