A custom mosaic studio rooted in light, texture, and place. We create enduring works in glass, tile, and stone for interiors, exteriors, and everyday altars.
Leah Shirley is the founder and artist behind Permanent Flower. She creates enduring mosaics that function as both ornament and offering — tactile talismans meant to be lived with. Through Permanent Flower, Leah designs custom mosaics and functional objects that bring light, texture, and lasting beauty into the spaces we live and gather in. To work in mosaic is to paint with glass — shaping luminescent surfaces that shift with the day, catching morning sun and evening glow alike. Walls, floors, tabletops, and quiet corners can all become canvases, transforming into art that is integrated into the architecture itself. Guided by a deep sense of place, Leah collaborates with clients to create site-specific mosaics for homes, workplaces, and community spaces — pieces that reflect the light and spirit of their surroundings, becoming part of the story of the space.
Born and raised in Austin, Leah spent formative years in Brussels, Belgium. During the dark Belgian winters, she came to understand the profound impact light has on one’s environment, solidifying her fascination with light as her primary muse. After receiving her BFA in Photography, she embraced sculpture, exploring the reflective potentials of stone, metal, and ultimately glass.
While pursuing her MFA at the University of Texas, Austin, she began working in mosaic, a medium that felt like a natural culmination of her artistic interests. Over the years, she has built a thriving practice creating commissioned works for private, commercial, and community spaces. With its interplay of texture, reflection, and permanence, mosaic offers the ideal form through which to channel her devotion to light — making its transformative properties tangible, held in physical form, fragmented and refracted yet wholly alive in space.
If you’re envisioning a custom work of art created for the light, architecture, and spirit of your place, Leah would be honored to bring it to life.
