The Cumulus Candle Holder is a hand-carved wood and marble collectible object from the Melting Collection by Gabor Gobi. Its form moves upward — narrow, accumulative, the gesture of a cloud or column — white marble remnants and Yakisugi-charred pine drawn into a single vertical resolution. A carved cork base gives the whole object the character of something geological.
Each piece originates in salvaged material — beam wood, marble remnants, objects bearing the marks of earlier use. The wood undergoes Yakisugi, the Japanese preservation technique of controlled charring, then receives natural oils and a beeswax seal. No synthetic materials. Cork protects surfaces from contact.
On the finished surface, charred wood and pale marble appear to fuse, as if subject to the same slow pressure. The beeswax seal gives the surface a settled depth that responds to the light of the room.
Compact enough for a shelf or mantelpiece, with sufficient vertical presence for a considered setting. Cork base. One of a kind; form and marble variation are unique to each piece.
