A pair of early 20th-century Chinese architectural panels, reimagined as a sculptural wall installation — equally striking in an entryway, above a console, flanking a fireplace, or as a focal point in a living room. the pair can be displayed together or separately.
These are surviving fragments from a traditional timber-framed structure, dating to circa 1920. What makes them exceptional is the surface: the original mineral-based polychrome pigments have faded over a century, but they have not disappeared — they have soaked into the wood itself. This is not a surface treatment that can be replicated. It is a patina that only time could produce.
Mounted on solid wood backplates with a 3cm floating gap, the pair is ready to hang with pre-installed hardware. The openwork carving casts delicate shadows against the light surface, bringing depth to any wall.
One-of-a-kind pair — increasingly difficult to find in this size and with this quality of original pigment.
