Catch the Light was born of a single ripple, the moment it disturbs perfection and spreads outward, ring by ring, until the water settles again. Commissioned as part of a group of three paintings for a patient waiting area at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, this piece holds that motion in a kind of suspended calm — light catching and releasing across the surface, expanding without ever losing its stillness.

This is an original oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas, built up through many thin layers of transparent oil glaze for depth and luminosity. The sides of the canvas are painted as an extension of the painting, and the piece is varnished with a UV protective coating prior to shipping. Arrives ready to hang.

Catch the Light was commissioned as part of a group of three paintings for a patient waiting area at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, with a fourth piece placed separately elsewhere in the building. To commission a painting in a similar spirit, please inquire below.

Light on water, held in memory

Laura Browning's work is a sustained investigation of light as it reflects and refracts across water - its shifting rhythms, its kinetic dialogue with depth and surface. Her process is rooted in prolonged observation of light on water across different hours, seasons, and geographies, carried back to the studio as embodied memory and rendered in layers of transparent oil glaze.

Her work is held in permanent collections at Delta Airlines Sky Club at LAX, Mayo Clinic, Apollo Global Management in New York City, Kaiser Permanente, RWJ Barnabas Health, and Sutter Health, as well as luxury hotel galleries in Tokyo and private homes internationally. She is represented by galleries in the United States, Shanghai, and Tokyo, and her work has been featured in Modern Luxury Interiors and sold through artist partnership programs with West Elm and Williams Sonoma Home.
