A pair of early 20th-century Chinese giltwood openwork carved panels, each mounted on its own solid wood backplate with a 2 cm floating gap — a striking focal point for above a fireplace, a console, or a quiet corner. The warm, hand-carved details and deep red lacquer bring a quiet, grounded presence to intimate wall spaces.
These are surviving fragments from a traditional timber-framed structure, dating to circa 1920. Each panel features a central roundel carved with a bird amidst lotus flowers, set against a honeycomb openwork lattice — a classic motif symbolizing purity and harmony. The red lacquer and traces of original gilt have aged into a rich, stable patina, impossible to replicate today. The openwork carving allows light to filter through, casting delicate shadow patterns that shift subtly throughout the day — a quiet, luminous presence.
Each panel measures 60 cm W × 25 cm H (backplate); antique panel 48 cm W × 17 cm H. Mounted with a 2 cm floating gap, the pair is ready to hang with pre-installed hardware. Can be displayed together or separately.
