Crafted from over 100-year-old reclaimed oak, this freestanding sculpture carries the marks of time, weather, and natural aging. Every crack, knot, and imperfection tells a story that cannot be recreated.
The surface was shaped using a combination of traditional woodworking techniques and the Japanese-inspired Shou Sugi Ban charring process. Selected areas were carefully burned, brushed, and refined to reveal the natural texture of the wood while enhancing its depth and contrast. The charred sections create a dramatic visual dialogue with the warm tones of the aged oak.
Finished with Rubio Monocoat natural oil, the sculpture preserves the authentic character of the wood while providing long-lasting protection and a rich tactile surface.
Mounted on a custom steel base, Black Vein stands as a contemporary statement piece that bridges natural history, craftsmanship, and modern design.
