This artwork is inspired by Japanese designer Nigo who designed the fun, loud Bape brand. The print is playful, energetic, and loud with colors. I have been wearing his fashion since I was a young girl and have always thought that the fun patterns and gorilla character were really cool and made me happy to wear them. I like the idea of wearing your art and so I put it on canvas since it was a happy time in my life. Bright, colorful, and energetic like my youth.

Jessica Anne is a San Francisco native, born and raised in the Bay Area. She has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and Art History from San Francisco State, and Associates of Arts from Skyline College.

The most significant memory that made me realize I wanted to be an artist was when I was ten years old, collecting abandoned cardboard boxes and duct taping them together in order to make my very own play house. My parents are first generation immigrants from the Philippines, so we couldn't afford those ready made plastic playhouses - so being crafty with my surroundings was my outlet.

A special time in my life that taught me how art can be restorative is through teaching art therapy. I worked at After School Education and Safety Program for a couple years and later focused on students with ESL, and special needs. Teaching students art is a form of non-verbal communication that transcends language barriers. The process of painting was a way to notice their feelings on the artwork, and it also made them feel good to be part of something fun.

I take a lot of inspiration from my love of architecture, nature, and the urban landscape from my travels to Mexico, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. Playing with textures and color is a central part of the creative process and experimentation with mixed media.
