Aurelia is a sight specific composition traversing the reception rotunda and grand corridor at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Dana Point, CA. Each of the more than 300 swallows is hand sculpted and glazed, some with gold foil and suspended on steel filament from the ceiling. Because of the linear structure of the long corridor, the client requested an orderly composition rather than choreograph the birds to fly freely in swirls and swoops. Aurelia was commissioned through the art consulting firm Faulkner + Locke for this project.
