Although this space isn’t near finished, here are 7 rules of thumb for bedroom rugs brought to you by this incredibly moody antique Persian Mahal we sold to a wonderful client in Oregon that’s doing it right!! - Don’t cover the floors, but dress them up and allow the rug to define the space - The rug should serve a purpose beyond being beautiful; roll out of bed with your feet landing on high-quality, lanolin rich wool - Don’t worry too much about the bed covering most of a medallion in the center of the rug (if it has a medallion), if you love the rug then you will love all of what you see - Most of the time we like to start the rug right in front of the nightstands for a nice clean look so you can still see some floor as the floor frames the rug like a picture frame does to art on the wall - The rug should be big enough to create a natural runner at the end of the bed - If you’re doing runners or smaller rugs on the sides and/or a piece at the end of the bed instead of a large rug, make sure the pieces aren’t too similar and that the rugs aren’t too close to one another - I know it can be a pain, but get a rug pad under the rug to protect the rug from traffic and the weight of the bed, and to help prevent the rug from wrinkling, folding, sliding, etc Did I leave anything out? Anyone else want to share their expertise and/or opinions? Would love to hear it!
