POWDERED PERIDOT + PIGMENT + CLAY + ROCK + SAND FORAGED IN WESTERN TENNESSEE. FRAMED IN BLACK WALNUT
This piece was conceived and brought into being as a conversation between two hands and one living wood: made to inhabit Connor’s hand‑sculpted black walnut frame. He began with a single, generous slab—its grain a map of seasons and storms—and with long, deliberate chisels coaxed a frame from the raw, honoring every knot, vein, and curve. Where some might smooth away history, Connor leaned into it, refining the edges until the surface held a soft, tactile hush that still sings of the tree’s life: the warm, oil-dark heartwood, the thin pale streaks like riverlight. His work reads as both architecture and touch—strong, patient, and reverent to the wood’s own stories.
Into that cradle, Taylor poured a different kind of making: gathered earth and memory, pigment and small bright stones. She foraged local clay—cool, mineral, stubborn—and milled rock pigments until they whispered color rather than shouted it. She ground peridot, the luminous green of late‑summer leaves and the birthstone of the pair’s August moons, folding those tiny facets into the plaster like captured light. The peridot: an ember of intention: a channel for the Leo energy that hums through the piece—bold, warm, expansive, but tempered by tenderness.
