QZ107 Serena Small Rock Chandelier
DESCRIPTION:
This surprising chandelier is precious enough due to difficulties to find blocks of rock-crystal, reaching for quality and density. It is rare to be able to extract large needles in sufficient quantity to make a chandelier. Rock crystal has always been a precious mineral through the ages, from Antiquity to the Renaissance, it was found in palaces and cabinets of curiosity sometimes in their natural state called Etat Brut, or cut in pointing shapes without any other artifice. The vogue of rock crystal became in Renaissance times a favourite game among rulers who took pride in showing in their Kunstkammer the fascinating work of goldsmiths incorporating rock crystal in fabulous animals and other decorative pieces, for table settings. One can find such examples in Germany and Austria, especially in Dresden, but also in Bohemia at the court of RUDOLF II in Prague, the most famous. Rock crystal is praised for its beauty, luminosity and transparency, sometimes opaque like a milky substance, depending on the origins of the minerals, it can be found in Madagascar Brazil or even the Alps, all different in transparency.
