This mixed media on panel painting was inspired by agaves seen during a stay in San Francisco. As with all my paintings there are traces of the many layers of paint and other media used in its production.

Obsessed by Patterns

My work reflects my passion for patterns as well as my attraction to chance (I have several sets of dice that I use when I want to take a undirected course).

Sandpaper is an essential material for me and I use it extensively as my work depends on many layers of media some of which are removed by sanding. For this reason most of my work is on wood panel.

I have a general idea of my painting before I start but any sketching I do ends up being part of the finished product. I'll often paint and repaint the same image (sanding in between layers) seeing if these iterations come up with a different look. Any traces of earlier applications are an integral part of each piece.
